Wow. To this day Ty and Henry are still fishing for gar. Two of some of the most knowledgeable, most hardworking fisherman - and that’s my impression without even meeting them.

So i get you wanted your picture with it, but why would you bring it in a boat where you have no where to run you got lucky that it got snagged up otherwise youd be carring your prives on ice to a hospital, i would have just tuckered it out and cut the line in the water sure you loose a hook but it beats a finger, toe or worse your man hood

Yeah those are small mouth. You can tell by the mouth opening, it doesn't extend behind the eye. If it did, then it'd be a largemouth.

People are annoying and this guys a dick for blocking out the name of the water I hate all fishermen who act like that I’ll out fish most if not all fishermen I encounter just because I know fish and how to read maps and I’ll gladly share any “honey holes” the point of fishing is to relax and teach either the next generation or anyone willing to learn and he thinks it’s a secret to protect with him only catching “baby pike” <- jk but seriously share the passion and knowledge

The reason you did not find any of the big striper under the dam, is because you will only find them when they let water out of the lake, by lowering one of the gates. The striper get "trapped" there under the dam and most locals know this and will go fish it after they let water out, and will usually catch all the big ones. Until they let water again you won't have much luck. p.s. I've been fishing the lake and river for years and know from experiance. And I have talked to a lot of locals, they will tell you the same thing.
